If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -
1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin
2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker
These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.
Fiction?
Try all the books written by Clive Cussler (mystery/adventure/drama type). I would suggest you start the books from the first; some of the story lines tend to follow into subsequent novels.
The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These fiction books by Clive Cussler are well-written.

If you're into autobiographies, definitely check out:
The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts - Maxine Hong Kingston
The Latin Deli - Judith Ortiz Cofer
The Year of Magical Thinking - Joan Didion
They are all amazing life narratives, and they're all from different cultures. I especially like the Woman Warrior. Happy Reading.

Ever read "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter"? Great one. Toni Morrison writes some awesome novels. Try "The Bluest Eye" if you haven't yet. My favorite book of hers is "Beloved".
I do have a favorite book, but everyone turns it down once they hear the title: "A Death In The Family". It was written by James Agee. He won the Pulitzer for it posthumously (sp?). I never could quite explain why but every word of that book resonated with me, though my life circumstances and events were different. It's the most poetic prose I've ever read. It's depressing, I'm not going to lie, but moving and incredible. If you read it I'll give you a lollipop.
No, I really, really mean that. You can count on my word. What's your favorite flavor?

I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha, and it is a wonderful book. It is kind of like a Cinderella story set in Japan, but it brings up some interesting issues and does not sugarcoat anything.
I would highly recommend it. Happy Reading!
