I am not really into the really young adult books but enjoy the ones that aren't to adult like Anne Rice but not to young like Christiphor pike. I am looking for books that are like Stephanie Meyers Twighlight series or Patricia Briggs's Mercedes Thompson books. Can anyone recommmend something like these two authors that deals with vampires.
Thanks so much!

Night World series ~ LJ Smith

There is also Laurel K Hamilton's 'Anita Blake' series, but they probably class as adult {18+ ~ high sex and gore content}.

Edit :~

The Anita Blake series is brilliant from books 1 - 8/9. After that, the plots become much thinner, and all revolve around sex, sex, and more sex.

You betcha.

Vampires:
The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. Her latest "Grave" book was actually pretty good too. I didn't care for the first one, but this one introduced a hint of romance (slightly incestuous, but so what) that I liked.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley. I will be among those mobbing her if she doesn't write a sequel. Not enough sex or romance, but the hint was pretty tantalizing. And that aside it was just quite a jolly good book.

The series by Stephen Spruill. Lords of Light, Daughter of Darkness, Rulers of Darkness (in reverse order). LOL can be hard to come by - I had to order from UK Amazon.

Savannah Russe is ok.

Laurell K. Hamilton is a duh, although her plots have been thrown to the wayside in favor of sex. Which is good, but .....

Shannon Drake: All her books are good but after you've read a few you realize it's the same book over and over, only the characters change. Which is GREAT if you really like her, but I've had enough for now.

Karen Chance. I've only read the first in what is currently a three book series about Cassandra Palmer, a clairvoyant who was raised by vampires and is now queen of the seers. But this first one kicked some major behind.

Witches: Kim Harrison is ok

Werewolves: Lori Handeland. The first one kicked Major ***.

Kelley Armstrong.

Patricia Briggs is worth watching.

Psychics: Kay Hooper. NEW! Victoria Laurie. She writes two series - one is an intuitive investigator and the other is a ghostbuster. Both are winners in my book!

Keri Arthur

Others I've read and enjoyed but no longer pursue: Heather Graham/Kat Martin (same person), Gena Showalter, Rebecca York, Linsay Sands, MaryJanice Davidson, Kathy Love, Katie Macalister, Kerrelyn Sparks, Rosemary Laurey,

One of my personal fave series is J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. They begin with Dark Lover.

Others swear by Lauren K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, though I've heard also that they take a distinct downward turn in the second half of the series.

Laurel K. Hamiltons Anita Blake series is the best. You might want to try Robin Mckinleys "Sunshine".
