The Trojan horse is mentioned briefly in books 4 and 8 of Homer's "The Odyssey."
It is described in detail in book 2 of Virgil's "The Aeneid."
Moral of the story - beware of Greeks bearing gifts ;)

The Iliad ends with the destruction of Troy the Royal family and most of the Trojan men. Then begins the tales of The Odyssey, The Trojan Women, and The Aeneid.

RE:
No Trojan Horse in the Iliad!!?
I've been fooled! I just read the Iliad and there was NO HORSE! Why? Where is the horse? I thought at the end Paris killed Hector and Troy was sacked, but I just read the entire epic poem and found nothing! Where is the Trojan Horse, and why was I told I would read about it in the Iiad?

The Aeneid (by Virgil), Book II, has the full story of the Trojan Horse. The Iliad was basically about Hector and Achilles and ends with their funerals. I think there is a brief mention of it in the Odyssey, but I can't think of where offhand.

The Trojan Horse appeared in Homer's poem The Aeneid. The events in The Aeneid take place after The Iliad. The Odyssey takes place after both.
Add.: Sorry, misread the article, Virgil did write The Aeneid. Homer never wrote about The Trojan Horse. It is in neither of his epic poems.

When Telemachus visits Menelaus and Helen (in The Odyssey), Menelaus speaks of how brave Odysseus was when they were together in the Trojan horse. I believe this is the only time Homer mentions the horse although it's possible it's mentioned by the spirits when Odysseus visits Hades.
The Trojan horse is developed more fully in Virgil's Aeneid.

Got news for you. The Aeneid was written by Virgil, not Homer, and plagarized Homer shamefully. It was also one of the first known works-for-hire. Virgil wrote it because he was commanded to write it.
If the horse is not in the Illiad, then it is in the Odyssey. However, I don't remember it being in the Odyssey when I read it.

I agree with Joy M.... I had read in our mythology book that Aenid was next after Iliad... it was the continuation of it....
