I like to write certain sayings and I do enjoy poetry (romantic poetry, meaningful poetry) writing. I believe I'm pretty good at it. How do I go about submitting my writing to a card company like Hallmark? I went to their website and there isn't anything on there for this.

In my English class today my teacher said that the Harry Potter series are not of the same academic merit compared to Pride and Prejudice, The Great Gatsby, 1984, or Great Expectations. He said, "it's like candy, it's good but it doesn't compare to a real meal."

What do you think?

So, I'm having a hard time finding any resources that tell me, definitively, what qualifies a character as a tragic hero. I've seen the Wiki article, but I'm hoping that someone out there will be able to direct me to more sources.

Your favorite book????

Looking for new reading material....And I like just about any genre!

2007-10-24 09:20:59 · 12 answers · asked by Eleez 2

I'd have to say

1). Aslan - Chronicles of Narnia. He is a very close description of Jesus - in control; love; not afraid of anything or anyone; always knows what to do.

2). Puddleglum - C.O.Narnia. He's very funny with having such a severe pessimistic view on life yet he's courageous and loyal to the death.

3). Andy Sipowitz on NYPD Blue. Loved his sense of humor. He stood up for righteousness and justice. Was loyal and loved his family and friends.

4). Hiro Nakamuro on the t.v. show Heroes - He's a clutz with a Big heart and seeks to do what is right even when it means it may cost him his life or the girl of his dreams.

5). Inspector Morse - A smart, lonely detective who uses his brain to solve crimes but won't settle for second best and seeks to do it right.

What are your favorite characters and why? Thanks!

I heard about a book on 20/20 a few years back and now I want to read it but I forgot the title.
It's nonfiction. The title I remember is something about waiting for the end.
The book is about a mom who has terminal breast cancer and decides to make hours and hours of advice videos for her young daughter, vidoes about boys, college applications, etc, so her daughter will have advice growing up.
Anyone know the title? I remember the mom's name is Erin.

Anyone got any recommendations for books

With romance, ballroom/any type of dancing.

Or with romance, art and music.

Or with a deeper meaning than girl drama.

Or with an experience that changes a characters perspective on life.

I don't label myself as strictly an interracial dater, but I do date men of different ethnicities than me. So...since I'm an avid reader...I'm now looking for some interracial fiction...preferably romance books/novels/articles, etc.

I cant believe he is gay - not that it matters but I just never suspected - did you?

People keep saying, "Where is the evidence? Why couldn't we tell that Dumbledore was gay?"

I am wondering what kind of evidence you are looking for. He was a headmaster, very involved in government, and generally a very influential man. It would have been inappropriate for him to make comments about his sex life, straight or gay, given his position.

If you think of it, there is no evidence that he was straight, either. He never made advancements towards any women. He never mentions having had relationships with women.

Most of his character was shown in his relationships with his students. No way could he have made any references to his sexuality then! Again, gay or straight, it would have been innapropriate.

And, if 10+% of the population is gay, you cannot tell me that there is always evidence just laid out on the table. If you know any gay people, chances are you were surprised when at least one of them came out.

What evidence are you looking for?

I mean one that really gives you the creeps and makes you scared to turn off the lights. The last one I read was the book about the Amityville Horror, it creeped me out. Please don't recommend movies, as they are never as scary as my own imagination.

I read this book at high school: Set during the first world war, it told the story about choirboys from an English public school who went to war. It focused on the class system before and after the war and what became of the boys - I remember that one suffers shell shock and commits suicide at the end and another has gas poisoning.... I'd love to know the title or author so I can read it again!

Society through the use of genetic advancements is now able to test for genes that cause every type of imperfection, from criminal and anti social behavior to mental retardation. because of this ability it becomes law that anyone with any genetic flaw must be erased. The reason for these erasures is that there will no longer be crime or the need for medical care, everyone will be perfect. When a woman becomes pregnant she must submit to the testing and if the fetus is found to contain genetic flaws it is erased. Only those with pure genetic lines are allowed to exist.
