Well, if we're going to include TV, I have to say:
1) Jean-Luc Picard from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" — He has honor and integrity, and never lacks sage advice or a pithy comment for his crew.
2) Elizabeth Bennet from "Pride and Prejudice" — She's smart and witty and human. There's a reason Mr. Darcy decides he doesn't care about her lack of money and social connections. Elizabeth's just a person people want to be around.
3) Roger MacKenzie from Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" novels — If Roger someday came to life, I would marry him (that is, if he weren't already married.) Yes, he's tall, dark, and handsome, and has a cute Scottish accent, but he's also creative (he's a musician), intelligent (he used to teach at Oxford), and a compassionate human being (he makes sure all the widows and orphans on Fraser's Ridge are taken care of). I love the sections of the "Outlander" novels told from his perspective.
4) Anne Shirley from the "Anne of Green Gables" series — I have loved trying to follow the creative mind of the "Anne-girl" since I was a child. Her adventures are so familiar to me, I almost think of her as part of my family.
5) Cyrano de Bergerac from "Cyrano de Bergerac" — The character was based on a real person by the same name, but the two are so different, I feel right in saying the Cyrano of the play by Edmond Rostand is a fictional character. He is such a sad figure - hopelessly in love with a woman who only loves him as a friend - but Cyrano just won't let you feel sorry for him. He has too much spunk, or, what he calls "panache".

1. Scarlett O'Hara--Gone With the Wind. Despite being a selfish brat for most of her life, the 10-year-epic novel gives us a flawed young woman who learns hard life lessons and how to be an adult.
2. Harry Potter--Harry Potter series. Harry is loyal, strong and courageous--as well as quick to jump to conclusions (Snape, anyone?) and makes some bad decisions. It is Harry's flaws that make him human and makes us sympathize with him even more.
3. Danielle (Cinderella)--Ever After (movie). She is not your typical heroine in distress--she takes her life into her own hands and even saves herself in the end, and gets her man!
4. Fox Mulder--X-Files. While Mulder sometimes would look for things that were not there, his strong beliefs and conviction led us to believe that the Truth is Out There!
5. Sailor Moon--Sailor Moon series. She is a klutzy 14-year-old girl who learns to be brave and how to save the world. She is kind hearted and believes that everyone has good inside, no matter how terrible they are.

While watching t.v. can be good fun, it isn't doing anything to your brain.
