There are far to many books to pick just one as the best book. It really depends on personal taste and what kind of books you like to read. Whether you are looking for a book to read for simple pleasure or for a particular reason. I could name off quite a few really fantastic books I've read recently. One of my all time favorite though is Jane Eyre.

Catcher in the rye by JD Saligner or The Secret History by Donna Tartt - that one is pretty long but SO good and easy to read.

You can't just pick one...........there are many parts to a person and there are so many books to suit each part.
I like:
Harry Potter
Twilight
The Notebook
The Culture of Fear
I Am A Strange Loop

That's such a matter of preference that it's impossible to answer. However, I suppose one solid answer might be Tolstoy's "War and Peace," which is, alas, "bible long."
