I'm looking for the title and author of a SCI FI book. It is about someone who travelled back to prehistoric times. The person was aware not to disturb anything & alter history, however he killed a single mosquito that had landed on his arm. When he returned back to his own time period, the world he knew had changed dramatically; because he did alter history by killing the one mosquito.

It was an interesting character study of the lives of a young chicken who became fighting rooster and a hawk whos lives crossed as they both fought for survival. I must have read it in the 70's or 80's but it was pretty old then, I think. I hope someone remembers it and can help me fnd it.

Godd her books twilight and new mooon, were out of question. I have already reread twilight like 7 times, If only there were books similar to the foribben true romance and suspense of the story.
??
I already read the uglies, sarah dessen books, blood and chocolate, and a great and terrible beauty, the silver kiss, all good as well, but I need a book where the romance is more true[[true love]] and passionate in a foribdden way like twilight.Isn't there any book comparable to it? It doesn't neccesarily have to be about "vampires"?[[though I would like it more]].
I know I already asked this but I'm hoping to get more answers from different people.

This great writer took his doctorate in law at Prague University and since this academic title is prestigious, he deserved to be called so to honor him for his pinnacle achievement. I wonder why, maybe, I think he didn't care or he didn't practice/teach law in any university. Obviously he indulged himself to become a writer alone. Do his avid readers know something deeper on the matter? Thanks.

Any Michael Marshel Smith fans here?

I'm not a big fan of fiction but I could not put his books down and found them so easy to read, I know he has a new book out soon under the name Michael Marshall - looking forward to that.

I'm looking for similar authors - any ideas?

My story goes like this:
A little girl loved magic, though had never seen, witnessed, or felt it before. However her interest in it never weakened. She hoped for a day when she could feel and discover it.
One day, it snowed, and snowed.... and snowed. She decided to go outside and take advantage of it, and she played until she was worn out. Plopping down, she noticed a robin with a raspberry red chest. Ever so quietly, the girl sayed softly, "Oh, sweet bird. Sing to me please. Let me hear you sing with all your heart, or maybe a song with magic. I’ve always wanted to hear magic." The robin tilted it's head and hopped closer to the little girl's feet. "Just a little magic, eh? I can do that easily", the robin said softly. Shock crossed the little girl's face. Smiling, the bird instantly sang a beautiful, heart-warming song to the little girl's glee.

Please help!

Well if you've read the story by Frank Stockton, heres the link if you want to read it. http://hennessey.lib.ok.us/tiger.htm
Anyway, I find it a really good story, we had to read it in class and I was wondering what people think came out of the door? I'm thinking tiger but then we had a discussion about it, so it's kind of hard to choose. Any opinions? =)

This is an important question my son & I have labored over for a number of years. Our analysis of hypothetical magic cage matches has produced mixed results:
--Harry Potter could almost certainly take out Frodo Baggins. Frodo has amazing powers of endurance and decency, but lacks the offensive sorcery tactics of Potter.
--On the other hand, Gandalf probably would very quickly dispatch Dumbledore. The Gray Pilgrim starts with the enormous advantage of being an immortal who's been around since Illuvatar created the worlds.
--Sauron is a badder bad guy than Voldemort. Not only does he share presence at the creation with Gandalf, but Sauron actually ruled his own realm for centuries (most of Middle Earth in the Second Age) and was tutored by a god (Morgoth in the First Age).

Any thoughts on this weighty issue?

Celebrity biographies, unfunny joke books, romance novels (the cheap kind with the corseted lady and the shirtless fella on the front - you know what I'm talking about), brain-dead adventure novels, books (ghost) written by celebrities/heiresses/royals, books with easily corrected errors, such as bad spelling, books generally purchased at airport bookshops or check-out lines...care to add any more to the list?

In 2003 the BBC did The Big read. Unfortunately it coincided with the release of the film version of The Lord of the Rings which I think influenced the vote. What do you think?

Mark Twain often seems to use the novel (Huck Finn) as a forum for his critiques of people.

I need 4 different examples how in the book Twain critiques people. At the moment I have two, that one poet lady and the southern people. Some kids are saying African American's but i cant find an example. If anyone has another two I'd greatly appreciate it.
