My boyfriend has been working on a novel and while he's almost done with it he's now claiming it isn't "worth" finishing and that he has no idea how to go about getting it published.

So, how does publishing work? Does a person get paid a base value based on how successful their book is estimated to be? Or do publishers already have a value set for new writers? Does an author get royalties as it sells?

How does it work?

when i was a kid i hitch hiked across the U.S. with my dog. ended up in tijuana. thats when i got involved with the local smuggling scene there. when all was said and done i got busted in a house in san diego. i had 53 illeagl aliens with me, and $27,000 in cash in my duffle bag.
it turned out they had watched me everyday for close to 3 years. the feds said i was the only white guy to ever make it past mule, and to earn a position of authority. according to them i was a
lieutenant in the mexican mafia, with ties to the areano felix brothers. one of which was #1 fbi's most wanted for the last 5 yrs. anywhoo obviously ive got some really good stories to tell. how would i go about getting paid to tell them ?

Life has been rough for me, I have always struggled to survive. but I find my self in a very bad position that I cant struggle out of. I fell as if I am dying, I feel as if I am rotting inside. I am diabetic, and to complicate things, I have an infection called Psudomonas. I cant afford to treat either condition. and I cannot get any government aid. I am a very talented artist/poet that never got his break. and want to spend what time I have left enjoying my childrens company, and creating great art
http://mortisink.tripod.com/poetry/index.html
I am looking for a Patron of the arts to help me through my final difficult days and make it possible for me to leave my daughters some kind of legacy. when a man sees his end he wants to know that his life meant something.
I was meant to be one of the greats, or at least that is what Im told when my work is seen, but Ive never had the break I needed. Is there anyone out there who is willing to help out? or at least perhaps commission works?

Title: What Was Left Of Our Happiness
Written by me, a 14 year old girl.

These words that I write are now dying on the paper

The ink of blood is seeping with inevitable steadiness

Dignity follows this destruction, for nothing goes unharmed

And when these pages of meaningful words will one day burn

I will watch as they decay into ash and emptiness

And yet those memories will always linger in the back of my mind

Because every moment that I spent with you

Will always be like a note gone unread

Like a song never heard

Like a road never traveled

Because every word that we spoke to each other

Will always be remembered as a missing hope

As a link to the answer

As a cure to the disease

But I won't forever stay and mourn your silent passing

There will always be someone else to grieve over

And as I read every line in this book of memory

I smile at every entry that represented my love for you

And I ran my fingers through the dried ink of crimson

That now strayed on the yellowed pages

But when I came across the last of the passages

I read it again with such sad distraught

And I dropped the book, like a needle covered in cyanide

I cowered to the corner in where I once sat

Where I watched you fall for her

Where I watched you tell her

That you loved her

And that I was nothing to you.
