Does anyone know the laws about having pen names? I was just wondering because I can only think of one author that has a pen name, but there has to be laws about them, right? Anyway, I need to know the laws for the U.S.A. Thanks.

I'm currently working on writing down memoirs of my freshman year of college. Mainly talks about drugs, sex, sleezy roommates and also about how I fell in love. It's as honost as something about college could be. Do you think I should continue writing it? I think it has potential, but i also am only writing it in hopes of getting it published.

I have started writing a novel which I think has real possibilities, however, I don't have the time or money to dedicate to it. I have heard that some first time writers do get advances based on first chapters and a synopsis but I don't really know how to start along the path of doing this.

This is this week's question on www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/. I wanted to know how Yahoo answerers would answer it.

"As an underaged wizard, what would be your preferred method of travel and why? Broomstick, Portkey, Floo Powder, or Thestral-drawn carriage."

I expect that several of you are older than 'underaged' (older than 17), but first please answer the question as if you are an underaged wizard, and then tell me what you would choose if you had all wizard transportation available and if you were not an underaged wizard.
Also, please tell me WHY you chose your answer.
I hope you guys have fun with this!

He is in the process of writing a nonfiction book. He will be sending out a query letter within the next week and would like to find a literary agent in the Boston or New York City area to represent him. What is the best way to go about it and are there any web sites he could visit to see sample query letters, proposals, contacts and to find nonfiction book agents' web sites? Any help would be much appreciated and thanks in advance as always.
