I have boxes of old books that I don't want anymore. I hate to just throw them away. The library doesn't want them. Is there any other place that would take them

If you don't want any money for them and just want to share them, you might want to consider bookcrossing them. Just release your books in a public place and leave the bookcrossing info inside it somewhere. The books can be tracked online . Or if you don't want to mess with marking your books, just leave the books around for others to find.

It is kinda fun to see where your books end up.
You can get more info on their website.

There are numerous options. You can always sell them to used book stores, there are quite a few independent ones that will take them, as well as Amazon.com and places like that. If you live in an area with a lot of independent coffeehouses, they usually accept books as well, as many of the more bohemian establishments actually have some kind of book exchange program going on. The other thing you can do is donate them to schools in your area.

There should be a used book store somewhere around you. Or a Plato's Closet, you could give away books for a price there. Also try a garage sale, garage sales are a great way to get rid of your old stuff. I wish I knew where you live, probably nowhere near me. I could always take those old books off your hands.

Sell them. There are usually places that buy used books. I don't know if you have a Half Priced Books where you are, but that's where I would go. If not, give them away. There are a lot of people who would be very appreciative of free or cheap books.

If you're an avid reader, sign up with a book exchange. You would list all the books you've got, and if any members want them, you'll be contacted. And you can also search all the posted books, and request the ones you want.

You have to pay postage $1.59 for each book you mail, but you don't pay anything for those sent to you.

I belong to this particular one.

Find a used bookstore in your area & see if they do any kind of trade or credit program. Sell them on ebay.com or Yahoo's auctions. Donate them to a local women's group or hospital. Donate them to a domestic violence shelter or other non-profit organization. Take them to the Goodwill or Salvation Army store.

Sell them on ebay. Also I have several Used Book Stores in my area where you can trade your used books for more used books you've never read.

I'm surprised the library doesn't want them. They should at least be able to tell you of organizations that need them.

other places to try,
hospitals, schools, good will
