Propane is easier and more convienent, charcoal tastes much better, so its really six of one and a half dozen of the other.

I prefer propane grills because of their versatility and ease of use. Charcoal grills are generally less expensive and they do impart a unique flavor to meats, etc. but you can achieve similar results by using smoke boxes and wood chips or wood planks. I've found that I can control flare-ups much easier, and cleaning up after grilling is often much simpler on a propane grill versus a charcoal one. If you plan on doing more grilling in the future then a high-quality stainless steel propane grill is a great investment.

Propane - don't have to wait for coals to be ready and don;t have to clean out the ashes. Also, if you like the smokiness of charcoal, you can buy canned flavored smoke or use wood chips in a propane grill. Oh yeah...most importantly, you can control the flame...NO FLARE UPS!

Charcoal is good for the "grilley" taste and Propane just for outside use. Saw it on the Martha Stewart show.

I own both because Charcoal is much tastier. But, propane is so much easier to deal with. Honestly, I spent well over 1500 to get both and have never regretted it.

Propane is easier to use and cleaner but charcoal has a good old fashion taste to it.
