I was wondering if this first paragraph seems like its jumping in the middle of a story or if you think it is ok. The entire story is about my freshman year of college.

The day that I moved into the dorms at the University, it was raining. It was always raining on that campus. It seemed almost as if it only rained in that area and only on days when something important was taking place. I dreaded living there, thinking it would rain constantly and I would be forever trapsing about in soggy socks. I never did mind rain or even storms. I just absolutely detested wet socks. After all, wouldn't you always have wrinkly shriveled up prune feet?

Pork barrel philosphy is only for those who have a barrel! At one point in time, the number of smart people available to fill the large room available diminished as a result of several futile conflicts. Would we be already colonising the universe had we kept our brains in the barrel so to speak?

My story involves a relationship between two very different people. One, the woman, is from a very poor country where people have struggled on in much the same way they do now. The man, a soldier, is from a wealthy country where he has access to technology, robotics, medicine. What does he look like and how do they meet?

When I was in junior high school (a long time ago), we were reading a book and then a parent complained and the school caved, so we were not permitted to finish it. I was really enjoying it, and would like to read it now if only I knew the title.

Here's the basic plot: it's a take on the biblical Job story in which God and Satan are putting a man through some tests; however, as I remember it, it is told as if God and Satan are backstage in a theatre and Job is on stage responding to their directions. Again, this was a long time ago, so I may not have it exactly right. Any help will be appreciated--thanks!

It's great; weird; wonderfully acted. But I have two questions:
(a) Do you think Dickens is really that spooky, or is this version influenced by the X-Files?
(b) what in the world is going on?

In the e. e. cummings poem "i have found what you are like", (which I have only read online) I have seen the eighth line as "deeds of gren thrilling light" and "deeds of green thrilling light"
Is "gren" just a typo on some websites, or is it a word made up by e. e. cummings?

Please do not answer this question unless you actually know, i.e. if you have the poem in a published book. If you are just checking online sources, please list them so I can see them as well.

I'm trying to broaden my horizons I am aware of Jane Austin, Emily Bronte, Louise May Alcott, Laura Inglis and even Mary Shelley and Ann Franks but I'm sure there are a lot more and perhaps better female novelists representing a wide variety of genres. Who is your favorite, what genre did she write and what titles would you recommend?
