It could be good. Does each different key give off a different power. How far can you go with that concept. A novel like this would be best suited towards younger readers.

Darn this short format we have to deal with in Yahoo! Answers. Makes us to the worst sentence ways no one understands. Do you agree?

Now that I've made a bit of fun at your expense, let me say that I think you have a fine idea for a novel. You might do well to develop it first as a long short story or novella so that you can see your characters flesh up a bit and try some action with them. This way you will have what is, in a sense, an outline to continue the work as a novel if you see that you can sustain it for that length, 200 to 280 book pages, which is about 400 to 450 manuscript pages, the average length of a novel today. This early writing will help you develop skill as a writer as you shape your story, rewriting it and rewriting to get it just right. Good luck.

I have to agree on the short story part. They are easier to write. Start with them, then work your way up. Novels are a challenge. Your concept has merit, build your writing skills first. There is a big leap from a short story to a novel. Pushing my first one now, Here is a blog of my shorts.

Keep in mind, for the longer ones, blogs read in the opposite order from the stories. In my list section I give the starting points for the stories.

Not to be mean or cutting but I think you may need to work on sentence structure, proper grammar, and phrasing before you begin any task as daunting as a novel. Perhaps write some short stories and if you are in school show them to an English teacher and if you aren't in school show them to friends and/or a proofreader. If it is on the level of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, people will eat up, but you have to make it very imaginative and filled w/ thrills; in some ways it could even have a plot twist like "Click."

It would work if the story is about the people and not the powers. I think there are plenty of stories about characters being given or learning powers.
