Clomp, clomp -- clomp, clomp
'Twixt dusty path and ridden trail, it seems
Trot, trot -- trot, trot
Amble horse and rider without aim.
Hush, hush -- hush, hush
The sun is but a blanket worn, he deems
Tip, tip -- tip, tip
Eyelids growing heavy, dull and tame.
So the wearied horseman and his steed
Rest their aching sinews for a while
Contemplating past and future deed.
Swish, swish -- swish, swish
Sudden silent serpent by his toe
Hiss, hiss -- hiss, hiss
What an easy prey his fangs obtain.
Slash, slash -- slash, slash
A springing leap from said adversive foe
Sting, sting -- sting, sting
Cursing, curled in torture from the pain.
So the wearied horseman, put to rest
Not by gun of law nor villain vile
Nature hears not either in its test.
