To give a heads up, I'm into a lot of different styles but I absolutely love writers like David Sedaris, Laurie Notaro, and Dave Eggers. I'm not really into anything like Danielle Steele. I just want something fresh and witty. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Scifi- The Dune series by Frank Herbert
He has a lot of insight on humanity that he carries over into his fictional world really well. They are my favorite fiction books.

Political- Any of Al Franken's books
His books are a little too far to the left since I'm not a Democrat or member of any political party for that matter, but he is really funny and brings to light a lot of the crimes that have gone unnoticed in the political world.

I also liked the Anne Rice vampire series. The story is much more interesting and original than the movies portray.

Michael Chabon is a witty, very enjoyable writer. Don DeLillo's "White Noise" is great satirical madness. Have you ever read "Wigfield" by the combined forces of Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, and Paul Dinello? Also, Jane Austen is very, very funny, an absolutely wonderful writer, and very good for your literary "cred," if you care about that sort of thing.

House of Sand and Fog - Andre Dubus III
It's about three very different, but troubled people whose lives revolve around the same summer house.

Lies Women Believe... and the Truths that Set Them Free - Nancy Leigh Demoss
It dispels myths commonly believed by Christian women.

The Awakening - Kate Chopin
A New Orleans woman living in the 1800s becomes disenchanted with her role as a wife and mother.

My summer favorites*hope you like them.

I highly recommend Italo Calvino - If Upon A Winter's Night A Traveler. Seriously. Read It.

Or if you're in the mood to catch up on some standards try Ayn Rand -The Fountainhead. Extremely fun book. Just don't get too sucked in to her universe!

If you want witty, you'll love the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. The books literally drip sarcasm when you pick them up; but it's HILLARIOUS sarcasm! Imagine a 5 foot 4 inch woman running around raising zombies and fighting vampires and lycanthropes and all the while having battles of whits with them. The one liners are everywhere! I laughed my butt off constantly!

A Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is a good book, along with Fear and Loathing in Lad Vegas. If you are looking for something a little deeper, pick up Thus Spoke Zarathustra(sp?)

Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote the Mars novels and the tarzan novels. There are 11 novels in the mars series beginning with 'a princess of mars'.Captain John Carter of the Confederate Army is whisked to Mars and discovers a dying world of dry ocean beds where giant four-armed barbarians rule, of crumbling cities home to an advanced but decaying civilization, a world of strange beasts and savage combat, a world where love, honor and loyalty become the stuff of adventure. Dresden file book series by Jim Butcher. There are 8 books in the series beginning with stormfront. It narrates the story of Harry Dresden, chicago's only professional wizard who works as a detective. He stands between the general population who is ignorant about the supernatural world and the monsters - vampires, werewolves, fallen angels, fey. He is aided by Bob,a talking skull.Karrin Murphy-a police officer and Thomas-a white court vampire.

Scaramouche by Rafael Sabatini. When his best friend, a young clergyman, is killed in a mockery of a duel by an arrogant noble, just to quiet his eloquent expressions of democratic ideals, Andre-Louis Moreau vows revenge. You are not likely to guess how their confrontation finally turns out. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, this swashbuckling novel is exciting throughout, and it presents one of the most dashing heroes in fiction, a man who can fight equally well with his mind, his mouth, his pen, and his sword, a man who stirs up events wherever he goes.
