I am part of a philosophy club and it seems that many of the other members are becomeing a bit fatigued with just sitting around and talking. Usually we end up in a sub group of twos and threes and I am trying to think of ways to keep the whole group engaged together. If you are in a philosophy club yourself I would love to hear what a typical meeting is like or philosophical activitys you have done.
I think we still have plenty of topics, but if you have a really interesting one you would like to share, I am open to ideas.

Is a cow, chicken, pig, or any other animals worth less than a dog? Wouldn't eating a cow for our own survival be just as cruel as dog fighting for entertainment? If a person claims to care for one animal, such as dogs, shouldn't that person care for all animals?

But back to my point, please provide logic to condemning dog fighting, yet still eat meat???

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

The Golden Rule is at the very least a good starting model for your life, but does it also exhibit some flaws? All people are different. Not everyone wants to be treated like another person. You may want someone to give you a horse, but someone else may think getting a horse is actualy bad (they don't want one and they'll have to maintain one). So they don't want you to do to them what you want someone to do to you. So perhaps a better guideline/rule would be to not think what someone else wants (based on yours), but to actualy attain the knowledge of what they want from them, and go from there.

Of course i guess you could also say that the Golden Rule shouldn't be applied to everything (like the horse example) but applied to everyone wants what they want, so do what they want. So it is applied in a vague way rather than a specific way, which makes the statement somewhat confusing.

If that's true, then why would God suddenly after the person dies and goes to Heaven, erase all of it or change their desires against their own will and make them His obedient servant serving and worshipping Him all the time? That's like saying God doesn't care about what I want anymore, he just wants me to do nothing but serve Him, reguarless of what I wanted to do when I was alive.

If God knows exactly what I'm thinking and all the things I still want to do in this day and age, then surely, God has probably prepared a place for me in Heaven so that when I die someday, I get to live out all my fantasies there.

(After I die, I hope to still know what I know now and still have my free will and personal desires and get to fulfill them there.)

I am looking at Spain, and when the textsbook talk about a Golden Age, they talk about the age of exploration at Spains Golden Age. But, during the 7 centuries of rule on the Muslims, the first 300 years could also be considered a Golden Age, so I am wondering if there can be more.
