A couple is two - ONL:Y.
A few is three.
Anything more is not a couple or a few.
If you want to be REALLY picky - which some of you know I can be when I'm tired and/or disgusted - it should be "How MANY are a couple?"
Thank you for allowing me to clarify that.

A couple can be more than two depending upon the way it is used in a sentence. When it is used e.g., 'Couple Of" ... when "couple" is used with "of" it is then considered an indefinite number ... There is a gas station a couple of miles down the road ... a couple of friends are coming over for dinner ... both references infer that there are two or more [(indefinite if dealing with hundreds, thousands, millions) e.g., I am only aware of a couple of days during my adult life that I did not have a morning coffee].
