Is it all just a hobby?

2007-12-04 12:15:51 · 3 answers · asked by YessiCakes 1 in Other - Arts & Humanities

Is it too strange to think
That, when all life at last from earth is gone,
And round the sun’s pale blink
Our desolate planet wheels its ice and stone,
Housed among storm-proof walls there yet may abide,
Defying long the venoms of decay,
A still dark throng of books, dumb books of song
And tenderest fancies born of youth and May?

Would this be ABABCDED (approximate rhyme)?

Do you think the other branches of Government should have stopped the use of internment camps on citizens of japanese decent during World War 2? Was it worth it to keep a possible disaster from happening? Or racial descrimination and paranoya going to far?

I wrote this 6 months ago before I had any idea what transcendentalism was.

In every stage of your life you were tested. Whether it is the 2nd grade spelling test or your driving test, people are constantly testing us against set standards. But aren''t we all unique? Don't we all make our own unique standards of life. So by testing us you are forcing us to rise or fall to the standard. Doesn't this leave us without a sense of individuality. We all are taught and tested on the same things. And by testing us you get results. We can fall short or surpass these generic 'standards'. We leave with our head helds high or shot down to a lower self confidence. Its always about sucess or failure and it never ends. Why do we do this to people? I understand their importance to society. But it leaves people with no self worth. Is there help for them?

A quiet remembering host,
Outliving the poor dust that gave them birth,
Unvisited by even a wandering ghost,
But treasuring still the music of our earth,
In little fading hieroglyphs they shall bear
Through death and night, the legend of our spring,
And how the lilac scented the bright air
When hearts throbbed warm, and lips could kiss and sing.

And, ere that record fail,
Strange voyagers from a mightier planet come
On winged ships that through the void can sail
And gently alight upon our ancient home;
Strange voices echo, and strange flares explore,
Strange hands, with curious weapons, burst these bars,
Lift the brown volumes to the light once more,
And bear their stranger secrets through the stars.

What would be the rhyme scheme? I found it to be ABABCDCD (approximate rhyme included), but is there a specific name for that like aa bb cc is couplet? And is there a constant meter or beat in this poem?

The World Goes Around

Heavenly stars twinkle and shine
In stark silhouette leafy branches entwine.
Deep in the shadows, where two lovers stand
Shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand
A halo of moonlight brings soft golden glow,
Enmeshed in emotion, the lovers don’t know.
They don’t see the stars twinkle far overhead
they’re lost in their heartache, and tears that they shed
fall like dead leaves, to blanket the ground,
while spinning and turning, the world goes around.

Tonight, last time these lovers may meet,
Pain, fiery monster with cold, raking teeth
Slashing, burning and tearing apart
New love, true love – and innocent heart.
Fighting for pride, their pain must not show
Each turns away, lets the other one go.
Blindly they tread the long lonely track,
For each broken heart, the future seems black.
Their tears, like dead leaves, blanket the ground
While spinning and turning the world goes around.

The difference between constructive feedback and Judgement. Constructive feedback is coming from a place of intention, support and love. Judgement means you don't care about the other person.

I have...and I have found it to be consistently this census year no matter what part of the family or where they moved. Most of my missing ancestors, found in 1860 and 1880, are missing in 1870. I have an entire branch of my family that I swear moved back to Canada for a few years, yet I have proof they were getting their mail in Ogdensburg, NY!

Any theories? I think after the War closed people were very suspicious of the government. I find that people in my family also used middle names for everyone, as if to avoid identification. In 1930, my grandfather was listed by his second middle name, Norman!

For my fellow genealogists...do you spend most of your time researching one side or even one grandparent's side only?

I spend 95% of my research time on my mother's father's side. They were in NY and Canada for centuries and kept far better and accessible records than the other 3 grandparents who came over from Italy in the early 1900's. I find that the stories are much more fascinating on my maternal grandfather's side anyway.

The officer reportedly pulled off his son's helmet, not knowing who the soldier was, only to be asked to tell the boy's mother that he died a "Christian death"?

Who was this historical figure? It smacks of legend to me, especially considering I heard it at the battle field initially, but I would like to know. <3
