It's funny to me how so much of the American culture resembles Rome. For instances the Romans took over cultures and made it their own, the U.S. does/did the same. The Romans named a temple Capitol for they worshipped the God Jupiter in on Capitoline, the U.S. has the Capitol building in Washington D.C. There are various cities, landmarks, etc. named after the famous Roman politican Cicero. The Romans really didn't have a architecture of their own, so what they did was used multiculturalism (Greek, Asian, African, etc.) to create monuments, structures, etc. U.S. today does exactly that. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Not to mention amusement. Both Rome and the U.S. use deadly sports (whether it's gladiatorism, football, boxing, wrestling, which came from the Greco-Roman era, even executions of criminals.) What separates us as Americans (even America derived from the name of the Italian navigator Amerigo Vespucci 1454-1512) from the Romans?

I'm researching a project for my Humanities class and we cannot seen to find any information on whether there were porcelain bathtubs in the 1600s that could be used in a big final project we have to create. If anyone has any informtion on the history of porcelain bathtubs, any websites to direct us towards, and/or known a 1600s Historian in which we could contact, that would be greatly appreciated! I thank you in advanced,
Gottennis.

I heard that electric strings cause fingertips to toughen more quickly and are therefore easier to learn with--My friend strung his acoustic with electric strings at first and then switched back when he was ready. Is this a good idea and why or why not..?

a better way to explain it to her? She's kind of messed up, and my explanation made her freak out because she wants to go up en pointe and has never danced before except for chinese fan dancing. Just explain to her that she shouldn't go up, and how the sizing works! She won't listen to me. Thank you!

Darkness Is My Ally

The darkness is my greatest friend,
An ally tried and true.
It holds me tight and won't let go,
No matter what I do.

It lets me hear the world around,
And yes, I still can feel.
Though darkness is an awesome force,
My life it cannot steal.

We are conjoined, and cannot part,
The darkness and my strife.
It may consume my very sight,
But will not take my life.

For when I'm gone the darkness dies,
I'll dwell in heaven's light.
It's then I'm sure that I will see,
My ally's final flight.

For now we two are making friends,
We are two of a kind.
We'll be together on this earth,
As long as breath I find.

These should be pretty revealing questions, 3 of which I copied from a new friend.

1. What would your patronis look like?
2. What happy thought would conjure it up?
3. What would a Boggart look like to you?
4. What rediculous thing would you change it to?

So far, I have:
- It took a lot of skill to hit land about 1.5 metres across
- France & Belgium were incredibly flat and so you could see a soldier breaking the skyline for miles and you could shoot them.
- The sandbags absorbed shrapnel and protected the trench from caving in [after rain].
- Barbed wire was difficult to get through.

Any others?
Thanks!

Hello,
Yesterday I have read "1984" book by George Orwell. I am still under influence of thet book. Fantastic... Brilliant. Actually they did a similar movie of 1984, it is called BRAZIL. But it is just like a bad caricature of the book. Anyway, that book was written in 1920's and story took place in 1984. Its portrait of future is so very dark, I am still under influence of it.

Do you think, seriously, we would be like in that book?

...for those there who truly understands the meaning of that question :)
