I have to agree. I've notice a regeneration of people wanting to check out her books from our library. For awhile the were not being checked. There are a lot of detective series and some are really good, but I like her settings. You think you have it figured out and usually your wrong.

I've read Patricia Cornwell, PD James, Elizabeh George, Kathy Reichs, Ruth Rendell but I always gravitate back to Agatha Christie's books.
But I prefer Poirot to Miss Marple.
Best Christie book: The Man in the Brown Suit
Best Poirot movie: Death on the Nile (preferably with Peter Ustinov).
Least favourite Christie book: Passenger to Frankfurt (didn't get it).

No. Detective fiction has become far too broad a category to hold one author up as the best. Much of it is simply too different to be compared.

I prefer Dorothy L. Sayers (much more psychological insight) - but Christie is certainly a good storyteller.
