a better way to explain it to her? She's kind of messed up, and my explanation made her freak out because she wants to go up en pointe and has never danced before except for chinese fan dancing. Just explain to her that she shouldn't go up, and how the sizing works! She won't listen to me. Thank you!

I also found her this website, and showed her the warnings in some of my books on pointe.

The website was for the fitting part.

Ok, so that was for leotards. She didn't understand that either. This was the same website, but the direct link for pointe shoe fitting. She has this thing...I wouldn't call it an anger management problem, but 'tis geting out of control.

the X is pointe shoe sizing refers to the width of the shoe. the more x's the wider the shoe. except sansha, they use M for an average with, W for wide and X for extra wide. some brands also use A,B,C,D,E,EE also in increasing order.

most pointe shoes also run differently than street shoe, so a size, let's say, 6 gamba, is really like an 8 street shoe.

and i'll let someone else explain the dangers. she should know without proper training, her ankles and metatarsals are in no way developed enough to handle pointe work.

Tell your friend to go to a store that specializes in ballet shoes, the store employee or manager can explain it to her.
