even though we are still alive physically why is that some of our spirit dies with them? Have you ever experienced this and if so how did you deal with it?

We're studying existentialism in school.. and it reminded me of American Beauty. Lester was at first living a failed life, and he was "unconscious" in a sense. Then he meets Angela, which helps him regain "consciousness". At the end of the movie, Lester discovers that he is truly happy and looks back and appreciates his life. This pattern of unconsciousness to consciousness kind of reminds me of The Stranger by Albert Camus... and I think it's an existentialist idea to appreciate your life even though you're going to die?

So if anyone can discuss their views or enlighten me more about existentialism (it's an interesting philosophy), that would be great! Thanks =]

It has been my experience that I have met an awful lot of strange people who are involved in theater. Not that they're bad people, but just people who do strange things like speak with a British or Scottish dialect, even in serious situations, or actors who have to hug each other and act like they've been apart for ages, even though they may be roommates..you know, strange people. Sometimes it gets outright obnoxious. I'd like to know your experiences and opinions. Personally, when I'm in a show, I try to be cordial and friendly and professional and that seems to keep people at arm's length from me. I find this is with college theater and highschool theater students mostly, but then they grow up and become strange theater adults...Again, I don't mean to insult people and I'm not making a generalization. There are actually some actors out there who are on a pretty even keel and have their feet firmly planted right here on our good planet Earth.

On Saturday morning, I attended an open auditon at the Mall of America for the roles of the children in the Sound of Music at the Ordway Theatre. (Here is a link to the audition information page off their website: http://www.ordway.org/auditions/ ) Ii was hesitant at first as I am seventeen, and the part I would be auditioning for, Frederich, is 14, and they said they were casting children, not young adults, so I'm not sure if that excluded me. The audition was not only a long line which you had to wait through to be the one on stage, but was also 'mic'ed and in the middle of a rotunda so crowds collected to watch from the above balconies, etc., which made for a more interesting experience. Most of the auditioners, gave their name, sang, and essentially walked off. A few were more chatty, and 2 little girls, after singing, were asked to march as well. About 75ish people audition, only about 6 of which were boys, 3 specifically for the role of Kurt, one who did not care, and two

As we control our own behaviours, what are the things that people won't or don't allow themselves to do?

What prevents you from allowing this -- fear, hope, desire, conscience? Other?

I'm trying to write a rural/country story, but am having a hard time coming up with a good/basic plot. I find myself writing good scenes, but there really isn't a plot; it's more like someone recollecting their boyhood experiences. I would like my story to incorporate elements from a variety of sources, but not steal their plot ideas. Some of the specific sources that are inspiring my story are: Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn, Little house on the Prarie, Christy, recollections from people on their childhood experiences, etc.

If you could point me to a web site that could help me with my "plot problem" and/or come up with some interesting plot ideas yourself, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. If you have any suggestions on how to deal with this problem of "plot finding" for stories of different genres as well, that would be welcomed too.
