There are soo many and the above is to name just a few. I read depending on my mood... If i want something funny i'll read Oscar Wilde or Mark Twain Essays and short stories and essays by David Sedaris.. If i want something deep, I'll read Poe, or Faulkner, or Doestoyevsky (i don't have the book in front of me so can't spell Russian names), Doris Lessing, Joyce Carol Oates, If i want something eerie, i always go for Joanne Harris.

Lol, there are so many, All of my favorite books are classics. Although I am in the military and it may seem wierd, my favorite book is Jonny got His Gun. It is an excellent book that was banned from the USA for some time because it is an anti war novel. Some of the classics, hum, you have to read Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Yearling, Animal Farm, 1984, and Of Mice and Men. Have Fun!

Didn't see A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on the list. You may also want to check out the list provided by the Modern Library Association at http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/100best
But what is truly classic is a book that inspires generations. Which means new classics are being created right now. My vote for a "future classic": Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, The Time Machine by HG Wells, Moby Dick by Herman Melville and Les Miserables by Victor Hugo are just a few great classics that I have read. There are so many great classic stories!!
