Just sitting here
Smoke away the day
Night is my company

They judge and they stare
They smile but they mock
Never were real
Always faking it

They come and go
like the clouds in the sky
ever changing
always morphing
hiding their true colours
behind a mask of deceit

Why I never trust
Why I never open up
Why I never cry to you
Why I never ask for help

I know what you're really worth
I know your deepest thoughts
I see through your lies
I've heard enough

Just me and my cigarette
And the four walls around me
Just me and the star lights
Just me and my thoughts

They're my only comfort
And the heavens, too
Jesus, Mary and Joesph
please watch over me

Angels cry, angels die
world not forsaken

not forsaken...

Nah...I don't believe that. Many parents aren't there for their kids when in need of comfort or advice or reassurance. They expect an ideal child who has no problems and does not cause them any them any trouble. I remember when I put my trust in my parents. Things didn't seem okay, and I wanted them to help me feel better--but to them my problems were trivial. In truth, my mom told me she was disappointed in me and that I was stupid--and only a bull would be so stupid to even think that way. She also called me a demon. I'm sure that there are other parents whose true devotion would prove that they truly have put forth their sweat and tears. That's just the way the world is--but it takes wisdom and understanding to accept that, know how to handle it, and move on past it.

Despise things, I appreciate my parents for their love--but nothing else. Other than that, I really don't have anything to thank them for. Since they weren't there for me, I went out and seeked my own answers and gain

A family of four could eat for a month on the grain it takes to grow one pound of beef.

A beef cattle uses 2500 gallons of water to mature.

Grazing cattle cause the extinction of hundreds of species of birds. Rain forests are being destroyed for grazing cattle.

Meat-eaters seem to be concerned that beef cattle will become extinct, but have no concern about the hundreds of other species meat animals drive to extinction.

Raising meat animals, and farming fish and shell fish, creates huge amounts of waste which winds up polluting our land, and water. It pollutes the ground water as well as the rivers and coasts. It has caused "dead zones" in our gulf and other places.

Birds and insects are essential to our human existence, but meat-eaters ignore this and insist that all 300 million of them have the right to eat animals every day, even if it causes great extinctions.

Do the math. How many animals to feed 300 million people?

Is the contemporary meat-eating habit justifiable?

Do you? I've found that reading is the ultimate in escaping this petty, bickering society. I don't even like it, when I read about divorce or cheating in any of my books. Then again, all I read is horror and sci-fi stuff. But anyway, do you read to escape the crappy reality of life and society?

My Life's Calling
by Deborah Digges

My life's calling, setting fires.
Here in a hearth so huge
I can stand inside and shove
the wood around with my
bare hands while church bells
deal the hours down through
the chimney. No more
woodcutter, creel for the fire
or architect, the five staves
pitched like rifles over stone.
But to be mistro-elemental.
The flute of clay playing
my breath that riles the flames,
the fire risen to such dreaming
sung once from landlords' attics.
Sung once the broken lyres,
seasoned and green.
Even the few things I might save,
my mother's letters,
locks of my children's hair
here handed over like the keys
to a foreclosure, my robes
remanded, and furniture
dragged out into the yard,
my bedsheets hoisted up the pine,
whereby the house sets sail.
And I am standing on a cliff
above the sea, a paper light,
a lantern. No longer mine
to count the wrecks.
Who rode the ships in ringing,
marrying rock the waters
storm to break the door,
looked through the fire, beheld
a clearing there. This is what
you are. What you've come to.

So I've decided on the Nikon D80 and now I'm considering lenes. I really like the extra zoom and Macro ability I would get from the Tamron (or Sigma) 18-200mm lenes over the 18-135mm Nikon kit lens. Other than a quiter AF, are there any other advantages to the 18-135mm? Does it work better because it was made specifically for Nikons? How much louder are non silent wave lenes? Are there differences in AF speed?

If there are other lenes I should be considering, I'd love to know about them. And, no, although it would be nice, I can't afford the Nikon 18-200mm VR!!

Thanks.
