Life is the starting point, and death is the destination. On the way to the destination, we learned, enjoy and suffer.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Good question,
But you may also ask, what is the point of death if there is Life?
That may not make any sense, until you realize that the greatest teachers were saying that we are actually living in death... and our job is to find the life which is hidden in this illusion we find ourselves in.

death is part of the balance of life. without it we would become overcrowded and over polluted and live in constant illness. a lot of people would live forever in serious incurable pain. when you have an incurable illness that's going to give you a painful, ugly and undignified existence death is a relief.
death also makes you appreciate life. when you have a near death experience a lot of people get their act together and try to get the most of the time they have left. we'd be better off doing this anyway without getting obsessed about dying. peace!

I love fuzzy's response and I wholeheartedly agree
But you have to understand that millions upon millions of people ask themselves this question, hence religion. Its a stage through life we go through---Theres also the color question alot of people go through: "Someone's blue can be green but they will never know because they call it blue....Like I can see something and it can be red, but someone else can see it and it can be yellow, but we will never know because we have been taught to call it purple"
Or what about the other stage: We are all just little ants--I havent had this one but I have had this one: There could be someone just like me out there doing the same things as me, wanting the same things and we are all just another human being, there are millions of us and I am only one, just another one--This has actually fed me hunger for my ambition.
And of course there is Whats the point of life: Tupac asked this question and so many other people have and made answers. Tupac, "Why am I dieing to live, when I am living to die"
In the end you can answer this question

The point is there is no point. We will all soon be worm food or ashes or stardust again. We are caught up in a moment of light that we call life. Behind us is an eternity of darkness and in front of us is the same. Enjoy my friend! Eat drink and be MERRY!..:)

We are born and then we die... what is in between is life.
Looking for a point will gain you no satisfaction.
Life is as it always has been... we are the toys for the children that are our hopes and dreams, our vices and doom.
Walk the path... you will know when you are done and you will probably ask... "Can I do it again?"
Just realise this... No you cant. At least, not the way your doing it now. Make the most of it.

Isn't this question kind of like asking, "what's the point of eating this delicious meal since we'll soon be finished?"
If you are young, below 25, then you have so much to enjoy still. Isn't that enough for you?
If you want more, then John 3:15-18!
