Most people usually have one of two views on life, and I'm just curious as to what views most people on here have.

Some people say they "live for today", and "live every day like its their last". I agree with this way of thinking because when you really think about it, you are not guaranteed to live a long life, so you should enjoy life while you can because you are not guaranteed tommorrow.

Other people say "live for the future" and "the decisions you make now will affect you when you get old". I agree with this way of thinking too because if you are one of the lucky ones to live a long life, bad decisions can cause that long life to be a long and miserable life.

Which one of these "mottos" (or whatever you want to call it) do you live by? Do you think its more important to live everyday as if it were your last, or live to make sure you have a comfortable future?

The only one I have so far is the Casualty list onthe assult of Fort Wagner. What I really need is a link to the letters Robert Gould Shaw wrote home. That would really make my day. Any other relavent, useful documents would be greatly appriciated. Thank you!

the agency asked for "A cover letter stating the title and one sentence theme of your manuscript. "
So, the cover letter is just a paper with the title of the novel in big font. what do they mean by "one sentence theme of your manuscript"??

1- By whom were the Dementors sent to Little Whinging in book 5, and why, and why to Harry in particular?
2- Why didn't Voldemort look into Harry's mind to find out where he was in the 7th book?
3- Since ministry officials can detect where people apparate and diapparate to, then why weren't the Death Eaters able to do the same to detect Harry in book 7?

I don't know if this is normal but I tend to shy away from reading other people's work when i'm writing for fear i'll somehow become influenced by their writing style and subconsciously change my own.

Can your style/tone be affected by what you read if you're currently working on something, or does it help your writing?

Hello,
Could you recommend a book for me? I found the Harry Potter series very entertaining, also the Da Vinci Code, Battle Royale (if you havent read it, for the love of god DO, it's awesome!) etc. I liked Pulp Fiction, Fight Club and the Shawshank Redemption... I want something that will leave me thinking for a while after i've finished it (Fight Club) also something that's very clever (shawshank redemption, battle royale, da vinci code) and imaginative (harry potter).

So...think you can help me out?

I look at all these talent agencies and all these people on yahoo answers and then all these acting camps with kids on the head shots and the tittle reads "succsess stories" and then I realize.. all these people want to be actors.. and frankly I see none of them going there.. so what makes me so different? Why is it that I look at these people and I still say to myself I will make it? Does anyone else feel this way? What is it that makes these people so different from me, put yourself in my position. I see all these people and probably none of them will make it to hollywood. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

I internally struggle over whether i like happy or sad endings because on the one hand nearly every story ends happily because people tend to like that, so it seems cliched and boring to me. on the other hand a sad ending is sort of different but depressing, is the depression of a sad ending worth the originality?

in general, im sure it varies from story to story, but what do you feel more comfortable with? Do most people start with a tentative title, just to have something to call it, then as you progress find an appropriate title or even at the end take it from a quote or something?

I am going to be teaching an improv/drama class to middle school students on Saturdays and I wanted to know if there were any websites were I could get good ideas for exercise and learning techniques that I can teach to them. If they are websites geared more towards older students, that is fine as well. I can always change things around to suit the younger kids. Anything will help, thanks!
