Middle school kids can handle any exercises meant for high schoolers. They're not all that complicated. The only problem you'll have is with getting them to let go and say YES. Remind them to say yes to everything. Saying no stops the action. If someone says there is a purple rhino behind them, then there IS! Go with it!

Tricky knowing nothing or little about improv will cause you problems trust me it is not as easy as it looks. However there are several book at Barns & noble, Amazon etc that have exercises for the younger student. First you yourself must learn the improv rules there are not many but they are very important if you want the class to move along. The most important one is never say no.

The Comedy Playground website offers online comedy resources for teens, and may prove helpful to you. I've also found The Ultimate Imrprov Book to be useful. We were playing with it at a cast party this past weekend and had a good deal of fun with it.
