Marianne D, top contributor asked me to talk a little about scams to enlighten some of you young actors and to put you on the alert.

I've already written about them so I will send you a link below. They are two scams that I almost became a victim of if I hadn't followed my instincts. You really have to be careful out there. It's important to find people like Marianne (at least what I know of her from her comments on yahoo answers), who have an interest in keeping acting pure.

I believe that acting is one of the greatest professions in the world and we should do what we can to protect it.
I don't want to preach. So here is the link:

Be always alert!

As an editor, I read...a lot. I get five to six unsolicited submissions a week, not to mention submissions for our writing contest currently running. There are certain phrases that just scream amateur at me.

Raven haired---unless the woman has black feathers coming out of her head, don't use this descriptive phrase. Same goes for flame haired. Unless her head is on fire, she does not have flamed haired. In either case, there have to be better ways to describe a woman with black hair or red hair.

"What he/she/it didn't know..." normally followed by four paragraphs of dull, lifeless backstory that has little or no bearing on the story.

Variant spellings of "Cain." Yeah, yeah. I get it. Trying to play off the biblical name and all that. But it's been done a thousand and forty-seven times, and changing the spelling to Kain, Kaine, Caine, Kane, Kayn, or any other variant doesn't make it any more original.

So, what phrases do you think are overused in fiction?

Sitting atop a broken hill
laughing as dark music played.
She looked allot lot like you,
not timid or afraid.
Smokey air falling softly,
As heaven and hell were set free
echoes of one good love
singing, "maybe one day it will be".
Clouds of thunder rolling by,
eyes toward a magic sky.
sun and moon all a blur,
moaning wind,
shivering sea,
iron heart made soft by thee,
singing, "maybe one day it will be".
from the first day,
to the last,
born without you,
and sinking fast.
a ship alone... yet alive, and free
singing, "maybe one day it will be”

PSS...
A little background...
(I was at an outdoor concert that night. An ominous black storm was brewing on the horizon, and I was wishing so deeply that she was there with me. Then I saw a beautiful girl who looked just like her, laughing, and enjoying the music, the night, and time with her friends. So...this short song was born. It's melody rings like her voice in my ear.)

Hi my friend and i are going to compete in districts and can't find a good song for just the two of us. We're both girls and our vocal range is alto. We perferably don't want to do anything from an overdone musical but are looking for suggestions.
Duet Musical Theatre Rules: The musical theatre selection must come from a musical theatre production which has been written and produced for the musical theatre stage.
No medleys or screenplays are allowed. Each selection may contain dialogue and each participant must be actively involved in the musical selection.
The performer MUST use non-vocal musical accompaniment which can be live or taped unless expressly written to be performed without musical accompaniment. and CAN'T exceed 5 min.

if you have any suggestions please respond THANX TO ALL.

I found three rocks on the ground by a creek in Southern Missouri. These three rocks were not extremly close to each other, but all of them Were shaped into perfect triangles and completely smoothed down. They were on the ground and the first one pointed in a certain direction that I was walking when I found the next one pointing in another direction. So I walked the direction of that one and found a third. I also followed the third direction but did not find anymore. I collected and kept all three triangular rocks, but wondered if I should have left them, wondering if they were navigational rocks used to point the way to something else.
The land I was walking on is heavily wooded and many arrowheads have also been found near the same area.
I wonder if there is somewhere I could find out more information on rocks like this and what they might have been used for.
