I am 13 years old. I pretty much be 14 when I do this audition(my birthday is in may, the audition is in april. I know its a long time from now). I want to sing "roxy" from chicago. Would this be O.K. im kind of thinking its not quite age-appropriate. What do you think?.

well, a lot of you have been asking what the audition is for. The answer is: I dont know. The company puts on about 5 different shows every year. You go into an audition and they tell you what you would be best as, then you audition for the parts.

It does seem like it would be too old for you, but what show is this for? It really depends on the situation. If you're in high school (some performing arts high schools are grades 7-12, or you could be a young freshman) and you're auditioning for a role that is older and you can play older then I think it could be appropriate. As long as the song fits you and the role you're auditioning for. More than your age, it's important that the song be in your range, be similar in character to the role that you want, and that you are suited to the role that you want. If that all fits together then go for it! If any of those don't fit, then please repost with more information and we can make specific song suggestions for you :-)

May I also say that I'm glad someone your age is concerned that the song may not be appropriate. Congratulations to your mom :-)

Good luck!

While Roxy is a cool song to sing, it might be a little too old for you right now. I was always told that directors and other people doing casting liked it better if you did something that suited your age. For example, one song that a director told me that would be good for me when I was about 14 or 15 was It Might as Well Be Spring from State Fair.... Good luck with whatever you shoose though, or should I say break a leg?

it is a bit old for you. What is the audition for?
Do you get to bring your own accompanist? I was just thinking something Sondheim- like Into the Woods- but you don't want to make someone sight read Sondheim.

Yeah, why don't you look at something a bit younger... Hairspray or High School Musical, Little Shop, Grease, Charlie Brown, Annie, Sound of Music etc...

Ana, why could you're making this problematic for me? they're all such astonishing songs! yet I do choose the Mozart songs, over the Gershwin and Lloyd Weber. I extremely like "Un moto di gioia mi sento..." and that i think of it would be ultimate suited to your overall performance. possibly i'm being biased, because it incredibly is the only music you listed that *I* have sung. (i'm confident you will sound extra effective making a music it than I did! :P) some innovations for songs you ought to do (that are optimistically appropriate to your voice).... possibly it incredibly is unrealistic to think of you ought to income them in time to your stay overall performance, yet once you already comprehend them or are able to benefit them in time, confirm you evaluate them! Ach, ich fuhl's - Die Zauberflote, Mozart Si. Mi Chiamano Mimi - la Boheme, Puccini Mein liebster Freund - Bastien und Bastienne, Mozart In uomini, in soldati - Cosi Fan Tutte, Mozart Oft she visits this lov'd moutain - Dido and Aeneas, Purcell Tutto è gioia, tutto è festa - la Sonnambula, Donizetti and what approximately Barbarina's aria in Le Nozze? This music is maximum by no potential appropriate to your stay overall performance, and that i'm uncertain whether it incredibly is appropriate to your voice (possibly a number of the extra ornamented passages could be too complicated?) yet you may evaluate doing "Quando me'n vò" from la Boheme. Its a marginally showy music, it incredibly is phenomenal, in case you could pull it off! EDIT: No, the Gershwin and Mozart are actually not too comparable. they seem to be a wierd "pair" yet i think of they artwork properly jointly. ok, they're the two interior the form of a Viennese Waltz, however the Mozart is extra classical sounding (needless to say) and that they are thoroughly distinctive stylistically. good luck! (or could I say harm a leg?)

I agree it is too old but why don't you try something like "strongest suit" from Aida, it is still sassy like Roxy.

You can use it to show your range, but it's not possible to "act" through the mature lyrics, so please don't try. Just sing it as technically well as you can....
