I'm looking for something for my niece. She tried picking up Twilight by Stephanie Meyer but didn't like it. Any other suggestions?

Most of the titles that I can think of fall in the inspirational romance category, particularly Christian inspired ones. Would something like that be suitable or are you looking for something non-religious as well? Harlequin has a line called called Steeple Hill that are much more wholesome:

I would check with a librarian or someone at the book store. There have to be lots of books out there that aren't trashy or that go into details. I find that the books without all the details are much more interesting than those that tell all every other page. I've put books down that do that. Get on with the story already. I don't need to know every little thing.

I find that there is more romance and mystery to the story when things are left unsaid or not described in minute detail. If you want porn, read porn then.

Plus - to some - Romance and sex are not the same thing.

you may attempt reading some era romance novels in keeping with probability? as an example Georgette Heyer wrote an incredible many romantic novels, often set interior the Regency era, that have no intercourse scenes, via fact it became no longer usual for properly-bred youthful women to have intercourse earlier marriage in those days. Her novels are very appealing and have appealing characters. a number of my favourites contain The Talisman Ring, the Reluctant Widow, the GRand Sophy, the Corinthian, Faro's Daughter, Arabella, and The Unknown Ajax. a well-known romance author who does no longer frequently pass into a great deal of ingredient approximately intercourse is Meg Cabot. Her novel 'The Boy around the corner' does no longer have any intercourse scenes in it (the hero and heroine do have intercourse in direction of the top of the e book, yet there are no longer any info). The e book is advised completely in emails between the countless characters, and is fairly exciting. 'each Boy's have been given One' that's advised in emails, text textile messages and diary entries, does no longer contain any intercourse scenes the two. on an identical time because it fairly is genuine (as a remark above says) that there are intercourse scenes interior the final Twilight e book, those take place in easy terms after the two significant characters are married.

Janette Oke is the Christian romance author who wrote Love Comes Softly, which another answerer referred to. She might be worth a try.

Also, back when I worked in a library (shelving fiction books), I remember hearing that Barbara Cartland said one of the hardest things about writing her books was keeping the couples out of bed until he got the ring onto her finger, but she did take a little pride in always being able to manage that feat. I guess the reason it stuck was because I put away so many of her books while I was working there! And her books took up a nice chunk of shelf space, too. I've never been a fan of romances, but I always had the impression that Barbara Cartland's works were of the classy sort, not trashy.

Anyway, Ms. Cartland might also be worth a try. Good luck!

Well, depending on how old your niece is, you might want to take a look at Mercedes Lackey's "Fairy Godmother" and other books in her "500 kingdoms" Series. They're all stand alone novels but sometimes characters from earlier novels make guest appearances.

Gail Carson Levine's "Ella Enchanted" is pretty good. Her other books like the Princess Tales Series are not bad either.

You could also try Shanna Swendson's "Enchanted Inc" books.

Meg Cabot's books are always very entertaining. You've probably heard of the Princess Diaries but she's written quite a few other books under various pen names like Jenny Carroll and Patricia Cabot. Most of her books are great fun.

Judy Blume's Forever was one of my favourite books when I ws younger.

Apart form this you've always got the teen romance novels which are written especially for a young audience.

If none of these suggestions work for you, try checking these links out. They're a list of teen romances from amazon.com and I'm sure they'll be pretty helpful...

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks
Almost anything by Nicholas Sparks should do. Sex might be mentioned in his books, but it never goes further than that. His books are very appropriate. Here are some more of his novels.
The Notebook
The Wedding
A Bend in the Road
True Believer

The truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

Book Description

Macy's summer stretches before her, carefully planned and outlined. She will spend her days sitting at the library information desk. She will spend her evenings studying for the SATs. Spare time will be used to help her obsessive mother prepare for the big opening of the townhouse section of her luxury development. But Macy's plans don't anticipate a surprising and chaotic job with Wish Catering, a motley crew of new friends, or ... Wes. Tattooed, artistic, anything-but-expected Wes. He doesn't fit Macy's life at all--so why does she feel so comfortable with him? So ... happy? What is it about him that makes her let down her guard and finally talk about how much she misses her father, who died before her eyes the year before? Sarah Dessen delivers a page-turning novel that carries readers on a roller coaster of denial, grief, comfort, and love as we watch a broken but resilient girl pick up the pieces of her life and fit them back together.

Hi Sunshine,

Try romances by Avalon Books. They have both contemporary and historical romances with no sex, only wonderfully romance.
They are hardback, so you may have to order them from your bookseller or Amazon or get them from your library.

Holly Jacobs is one of my favorite writers.

BTW, I sold my first novel to them. It will be out in Feb 2008. Also, Harlequin Intrigues might be worth looking into, too. Try anything by Vicki Taylor or Beth Cornelison.

The older romance novels don't have descriptions of sex. If she wouldn't mind historical romances, Georgette Heyer is one of the best that comes to mind. They're well written, funny, and the sexiest they ever get is a description of a kiss.
Enjoy!

Yes, there are romance books without graphic descriptions of sex. If your neice likes ebooks try Purple Heart. I wrote that one. It's available at www.fictionwise.com. You might also try A New Leaf. I wrote that one too, and it's available at www.amazon.com.

Thanks,
