can anyone tell/describe how to draw tribal symbols/signs like those on a tattoo? freehand?

Here's how I work to draw tribal animals. I rough out a realistic image then simplify it and break it up into stylized lines. Practice copying some tribal art first to get a feel for it. :)

Adding tribal to it would ruin the integrity of the symbol. If you don't like it the way it is then don't get it. Think of a different design if the fleur-de-lis is too plain for you. Better yet, don't get a tattoo this weekend. Wait until you have your idea fully set before making an appointment.

I would suggest just looking up tribal tattoo images and try copying them freehanded just to get a feel and from there you may in turn get ideas and create your own...good luck!

I agree--find some tribal designs that appeal to you and try to copy them yourself at first. When you get comfortable with the style, it will be easier to change the design to whatever you want. It's something I would like to try someday myself.
I designed my tattoo too!
