Anyone know any good "modern/American" songs I can Rumba to? For example, Gloria Estefan does a great cover of "Traces". I'm just learning the Rumba, so I don't have a lot of Latin music, but if there are some classic old songs you can suggest, I might already have them -- something to practice to. Thanks!

I spent most of my years in Richmond Virginia. Richmond is a GRAND LOVER of confederate icons. We have statues of Robert E. Lee that is displayed promantely on the Blvd. (I won't even get into all of that)

HERE IS MY QUESTION: Why do SO MANY AMERICANS idolize the confederacy? I know that many peoples forefathers fought in that war, but mine did as well and I do not idolize them. One very important reason is b/c 75% of my family tree were the African slaves who were crippled & made to live lower than dogs under the cruel system of slavery. (The culture of slavery was the worst form of terrorism that exists)

FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS
1. Why wasn't Jeff Davis and the confed. soldiers tried for treason and put to death at the end of the war?\
2. Why wasn't the reconstruction plan followed thru? The Confed. states were restored to their with loyal gov. but the south found a new way slave Africans thru Jim Crow Laws.
3. What is it about the Confederacy that causes so much idolization?

I have this small moonscape painting from the late 19th century that I bought from Belgium. It's painted on wood panel and most that have seen it say it has a Van Gogh appearance. I had it looked at by a few professionals that said it was from that time period and location and was painted by an extremely gifted artist, but since it has no signature, I could get no other details besides that. I know also that Van Gogh rarely signed his works and from what I have read he did do some on wood panels, which at first I had my doubts about. I would like to have a top world expert on Van Gogh paintings that could take a look at it, but I'm not sure who I could contact. Any help on how I could pursue this would be greatly appreciated.

What can I say? We're best friends that are always looking for what we have in common. She came up with the idea, today, of finding out how we were distantly related. Is it possible? Are there ways to find the information without eons of painstaking tracing?

I recently started writing a novel in which one of the major characters is supposed to be a famous singer/songwriter. In the book the character of “Eddie” writes a song that he later records and it becomes a huge hit. If I should get this book published, do you think I should write and record the song as an add-on to the book? As a hobby, I also write songs and my cousin has a recording studio. Would you as a reader want to hear that song (or other “Eddie” tracks)? My only concern is if the song turns out to be okay in my mind, but not very good in other peoples mind, will that take away from the validity of the book? Would it be less realistic that “Eddie” was really a famous singer/songwriter if the songs were just average at best? Or would it help to create a real world feel to the book and make the character more tangible and relatable? I was thinking of either encluding a CD with the book, or putting the songs on iTunes. Something like that. Your help is greatly appreciated

Sometimes I feel I'll become a manipulative social robot... But aren't we mere sophists, anyway?

If you think that it is worth pursuing, how do you suggest doing so? Right now, I'm working on my oratory skills, and my next step will be trying to understand humor more deeply.

Unfortunately, I'm also emotionally weak, so I'm trying to understand the stoic's philosophy. Have you got any suggestions?

Hi there

Sometimes when i am having a bad time over whatever, i quite often look into the sky at night and it just sums up everything. It puts a scale on things of just how important my life is.

What i am trying to say is no mater how big you think your problem is, its nothing on the grand scale of space time etc... and theres ALWAYS someone worser off!

You should try it.

I know this not strictly a question but i am interested in your views so please answer!
