IWW=International Workers of the World. Unions did not succeed in the 20s because many Americans suspected that they were affiliated with Communists. In addition, the big business leaders generally had the sympathy of the government, which used the anti-trust laws against unions.

Internation Workers of the World, also known as Wobblies.

They tried to stand up against the owners (Henry Ford comes to mind) for decent wages and benefits, but the bosses said no.
