I always like to have both sides' point of view and usually, both arguments makes somewhat sense most of the time. I've been to Cyprus and that country has touched me so much. I think about the tragedy that happened there and when I think of Turkey and their argument as to why they've invaded and are still occupying 37% of the island, it doesn't make sense to me. Ok, so I'm suppose to see that Turks were killed throughout the middle of 1960 till 1974. Ok yeah I believe that, but at the same time while the Turkish minority was suffering casualties on the island, the Greeks on the island were killing Greeks. Even their idol, the Greek-Cypriot president Makarios was almost assasinated by Greeks and eventually forced to flee for his own safety from the Greeks. That sounds to me more like a civil war type of thing than ethnic cleansing. So why did Turkey decide to get involved and claims there was an ethnic cleansing? And since when war + occupation= justice. Somebody explain?

Or was Brutus just plain wrong and that killing Caesar meant nothing for Rome.

It is a matter of perfect indifference where a thing originated; the only question is: Is it true in and for itself?
~ Georg Wilhelm Friedrich (G.W.F.) Hegel, The Philosophy of History (1832). Introduction

Whatever is reasonable is true, and whatever is true is reasonable.
~ Georg Wilhelm Friedrich (G.W.F.) Hegel

"What is rational is actual, and what is actual is rational"

"Spirit is self-contained existence. Now this is Freedom, exactly. For if I am dependent, my being is referred to something which I am not; I cannot exist independently of something external. I am free, on the contrary, when my existence depends on myself."

please explain to me what this mean........many thanks

When people asked me to name my favorite books from when I was a child, I could say without even thinking "The Giver" by Lois Lowry and "Singularity" (I don't remember the author). The images of these books stuck in my mind for years. They had such an impact on me.

I had been thinking of them lately and decided to read both of them again, and much to my disappointment, they were definitely not as amazing the second time around. I wish I hadn't read them as an adult, and had just left the memories of the books alone.

Any similar stories? Did you enjoy re-reading your childhood favorites or were you very disappointed?

We know that our thoughts effect our everyday lives, but how is our current state of existence effected by the imagination of our ancestors? My feelings are that all we know exists as a result of someone's fantasy...loosely stated. All we can imagine today has the potential to exist in the future. Do we manifest products of our imagination by the moment without realizing it?etc..
