Hi

There are two really good ones. It just depends on how much money you want to spend. A good quality one for PC is Pinnical Studio Plus - Version 10.5. You can do a lot with it - create montages, add music, create DVD's and create using two monitors or use a t.v. It comes with a device that you hook up to your computer,t.v., stereo all at the same time to create your videos. This one is good, a little difficult to use, but fun. It costs around $160.00 at Best Buy - I think.

The other is Final Cut Pro, but it only runs on IMac computers. The software is awsome. It has 24, 000 sound effects, you can create your own music if you get Sound Cut Pro with it. There are three screens to edit your videos. In the timeline there are I think 6 or 8 video and 6 or 8 audio sections, so you can add layers. This is way more advanced. I use this software in my Film class. Again you have to have IMac computer $$$$. The Imac is made to creating videos, so all the software comes with it.

windows moviemaker is easy but i find my edited clips automatically deleted after some days. And also our edited files remain in WMM format.
google picasa (can download free here( http://angle-mine.blogspot.com )is also a good quality software, but its mostly used for still images by beginners. But i heard it can give effects to video clips too.It has an inbuilt system to directly make our own site and upload our photo work to web.
if ur purpose is to learn the basics of video editing then win movie maker is fine.other wise u will have to get pinaccle from somewhere.either buy or borrow.
