Ok, if its not from South Park I'm not really sure. A lot of comedians do seem to make jokes about Canada but then a lot of them are actually Canadians themselves so they're just sending up their own country. I'm thinking about Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas who had that whole "Great White North" bit (they are both from Canada who made it big in the U.S.). Now that I think about it, there are quite a few people in entertainment who are from Canada and came to the U.S. so maybe they have infused some of that into U.S. establishment. Basically I think its just gentle kidding though since other than T.V. (or the South Park movie), I have never heard of any actual person who didn't like Canada. My experience has been quite the opposite actually.

It has been a long standing joke of sorts. America did try to take Canada Away from the Brits in the early 1800's. Some suggested it around 1865. Since then we have been great allies. Most anti Canada talk is about the French Canadians who seem against the US for the most part. It also seems funny to "Blame Canada" as they never seem to be too controversial.

Americans make fun of Canada because it is generally perceived as an impotent, cultureless, boring, bleak land of people too pathetic to fight through the snow drift dividing them from a real country where things happen.
Americans realize that they have plenty of problems the Canadians don't have but they also have so many things to be proud of that they feel honored to take the good with the bad. Would you rather live a 'perfect' life with people that look just like you and say 'heck' instead of 'hell' or would you rather live somewhere each day is different, where you have the opportunity to make whatever you like of yourself; from a hollywood star to a crackhead or both.
These are of course generalizations, but the sentiment is founded in reality.
Plus, after the war of 1812 we swore we didn't want anything to do with that stupid country anyway...

I agree with Mr. Truth: where did you get THAT idea? South Park? You do realize that's a cartoon, right?

We American's don't have anything against Canadians.

I don't know what it is about Canada that Americans don't like. Maybe its because Canada is relatively peaceful and Americans are so violent that it makes them angry. But I do know that when George W. was reelected, Americans raced to the border and tried to become Canadian citizens. I guess it isn't so bad then, eh?
