When an Artist wants to do this or there is something so popular it calls for this,.. Prints are made.

Prints are like Posters,.. just mechinical Copies or whatever you want to think of them.

There are also re-productions, but those usually are the same.

Some times an Artist will have art students attempt to recreate their artwork,.. or a school may try to do so with a live painter's artwork. These are what cause the biggest problems,.. they are real paintings and the Artist may have been involved,.. but they are not considered the Artist themselves recreation or anything.

The interesting thing is some times the Students become famous/popular themselves,.. then these have great value,.. even though they are considered neither here nor there.

Yes, even great painters like El Greco reproduced versions of the same picture multiple (sometimes 5 or 6) times. On a more popular level people like Thomas Kinkaid are noted for doing "finishing touches" on prints and selling them for big bucks.

well most of the artist that I admire do not make copies of their paintings unless they are signed limited archival prints.
I see nothing wrong with making prints. In this day and age an artist has to provide for themselves.
