Can someone enlighten me concerning historical fact of how our calendaring system came about? Particularly on B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (can't remember what acronym stands for). Who came up with this and how was it adopted? During Julias Caesar's time, was it really known as 50 B.C. in Rome or did they have another calendaring system?

Is there a website that can help me talk and write like people did in the 18th century?

(In America when the country was still young?)

In Rousseau, the minority is always incorrect and must be enlightened by the majority, what examples are there where the majority has been misdirected, misinformed, etc, that disprove his theory. I have considered Tocqueville's argument that if a man possessing absolute power can misuse that power, than why can't a majority, however specific examples, or building upon what Tocqueville said would help. I'm wringing for a History of Policical Thought class where I have a C becasue I used the United States and the Bible as sources to disprove Aristotle, so as much help as you could give me would be an incredible help.

It can be any genre, tell me what's better. (Obviously, if you hated MISTS OF AVALON then I don't need your input but if you feel you must share something then, go ahead.)

Also, thanks, already saw the DRAGONRIDER series (or Dragons of Perth) by Ann McCaffrey. Good stuff, too.

I was excited to see this book forum, but sometimes it seems like it's mostly populated by middle schoolers looking for people to summarize the readings they've been assigned. A related question...does this ever work? Do other people actually do these kids' homework for them on this site?

I am talking about the 21st century. We can go to the moon. We can even dive under the ocean too deep to swim to. We can build a machine that can help the heart pump blood and keep a person alive. We can make a living thing from scratch, but we have yet to decipher what it is that makes us learn, think, question, remember, believe, and be. This thing that is called the sole. What is it? Can it be contained? Retained? Transfered? Deciphered?

How does food go into the body, nurture it, sustain life, and cause the human brain to plan for the future, build gadgets, create art, love, sing, cry? Is this higher order of thinking part of evolution? I am fascinated bu it. Please share your thoughts...
