"The truly characteristic thing about modern life was not its cruelty and insecurity, but simply its bareness, its dinginess, its listlessness." This is from Orwell's 1984. I wondered to myself if this could be said about modern life. I think it's probably somewhat very true about impoverished areas. Does anybody think this is a somewhat accurate description of today's society? I think society as a whole is losing energy and is gradually becoming stagnant. The individual, however, still holds his zest for life.
