This needs to be a short play and I would like it to be a love story or at least something romantic.

I've recommended these plays before on 360, but...

The Actor's Nightmare by Christopher Durang
Durang imagines a one-act nightmare in which George Spelvin (the name of a famous 19th century actor) suddenly finds himself in a series of plays, from "Private Lives" to "Midnight Sun" to Shakespeare. It's a lot of fun, and an easy read.

The 15-Minute Hamlet by Tom Stoppard
All the major points of Hamlet performed in 12 minutes with 5 actors (I think), then a 3-minute encore in which Ophelia's entire part in the play is reduced to the actor running onstage, saying "glub, glub" and dropping dead, a lily popping up on her chest. Hysterical, and perfect for schizophrenics.

There's also a great little show called "A Dopey Fairy Tale" which is perfect for what you need, but I forget the author's name.

Somebody suggested 'A Marriage Proposal' by Chekhov which is a romantic farce and he wrote another just as fun "The Boor" sometimes translated as 'the Bear'. I also second 'The Apollo of Bellac' and then a sort of romantic tragedy by Saroyan called 'Hello Out There!" "The Tiger" and The Typists are both very funny and sort of romantic.

BTW Inherit the Wind is a full length play.

Is a one-act play too short, or not short enough?
"The Apollo of Bellac" is one of my favorites. A little weird, but it's great. It's kind of a romance.
Go check out a book of one-act plays from your library, or even a book of ten-minute plays.
A good dramatic ten-minute play (though it's not a romance, sorry) is "Cameras". It's really artsy.

How short a play? "Inherit the Wind" is a light read, but it has multiple acts . . . so maybe not short enough. It's about the "Scopes Monkey trial" on whether evolution should be taught in schools.

I was going to suggest Checkov's The Marriage Proposal. Not exactly a great romance story, but fun nonetheless.
