Why does everyone always act so surprised when the intelligence services do things to make it harder to investigate them or provide (necessary) government oversight over their activities? The destruction of the CIA interrogation tapes that involve "waterboarding" is a perfect example.
Doesn't anyone remember the history of these agencies? They get out of line every decade or so and only congressional investigations act to provide any outside restraint. Remember the Church and Pike committee hearings in the 1970's? The Iran-Contra hearings in the 1980's? It is a pity our congress is so pathetic these days, because they would never take the political flak that such hearings would generate today for them. Which means that the word "oversight" has lost any meaning.

Over the last week or so i developed a rather severe cold but with it has come this really nasty cough. I am only a little wheezy when not having a coughing fit and have no chest pains but when the cough comes on it can last for ages. I am unable to catch my breath and it feels like 'I can't get the whole cough out'. With this i get a prickly sensation in my throat and the cough gets worse at night. Last night for example I had 15 mins sleep in total because every time i dozed off i woke up spluttering and gasping for breath and took me hours to be able to breathe again properly. can a cold bring on asthma that is normally lying dormant? I guess my real concern is its a bank holiday so do i really want to go to A&E and waste their time? But do i also want another night fearing for my life? I was very close to calling an ambulance last night but then it calmed down. any ideas?

“Schlumberger” sacks Two Britons for zoophelia

In an unprecedented act of its kind, two British workers from the French oil company “Schlumberger” were sacked following sexual zoophelia on two sheep intended to be sacrificed for the “Eid Al Adhha” – a ritual followed by Muslims in which they slay a sheep to celebrate Abraham’s devotion to god.
This unprecedented act that shocked the people of Hassi Messaoud (southern part of Algeria) took place on the eve of “Eid” celebrations, when the two drunken workers abused two sheep in a warehouse nearby the company’s restaurant.
The two animals were supposed to be sacrificed for 30 foreign workers including Algerians working for other foreign oil companies. Both zoophilous have been surprised dong their heinous act by the restaurant’s workers and some watchmen and immediately denounced them to their mangers.

I asked my ex to get back together with me. He dumped me and feels I haven't fixed myself that quickly. I was insecure and played emotional games with him. I realize this all comes from trust issues and low self-esteem. I feel that I am getting better and he told me to keep working on it. He has a new girlfriend and claims to be happy. I've been looking for a DVD recorder but would like to have facility to copy VCR tapes onto DVD. There are plenty of machines which allow you to do this - but all seem to lack the Hard Disc which is now easy to find on purely DVD recorders. This seems strange. Are there any exceptions? Is there some industry agreement not to produce combinations which include a hard disc?

put a restraining order on me for dating their daughter, (were both minors) i did some research online and it doesn't look like they can because i was never abusive or threatening in any manner and we never had sex.
