I've been looking for a DVD recorder but would like to have facility to copy VCR tapes onto DVD. There are plenty of machines which allow you to do this - but all seem to lack the Hard Disc which is now easy to find on purely DVD recorders. This seems strange. Are there any exceptions? Is there some industry agreement not to produce combinations which include a hard disc?

In all honesty, it's not worth bothering.

DVD / VCR combinations are notoriously unreliable for starters. Then, once you have dubbed all your tapes, the VCR section becomes redundant.

It's much better to buy a DVD recorder with a built in hard drive, then link your current VCR player to it with a scart cable and dub directly from tape to the DVD recorder's hard drive, then on to DVD disc.

Once you have transferred all your videos, you can get rid of the VCR.
