put a restraining order on me for dating their daughter, (were both minors) i did some research online and it doesn't look like they can because i was never abusive or threatening in any manner and we never had sex. Also I heard she could have me thrown in jail but that doesn't sound very realistic if i never did anything they just don't want us to date

No, they can't. They would have to have some very valid evidence as to "why" they are obtaining a restraining order... just cause you don't like someone near you, doesn't warrant a restraining order. Having said all that... I'd be very careful about being around this girl... her parents clearly don't want you dating her....don't give them anything to nail you with. Good luck....

There "has to be" a reason for their getting a restraining order. The mere fact you apparently have been dating their daughter against their wishes makes it a criminal act. It's called in our state "Contributing To The Delinquency Of A Minor." It's a misdemeanor charge. The fact you are still trying to circumvent her parent's wishes tells me you have no respect for their wishes as parents. That's another strike against you. It would be my opinion that the fact you would even mention that you'd never had sex means it's in your mind to do so at the first opportunity. As much as you probably think you're "Joe Cool" her parents can see that in you. So far it all adds up to you're not being the kind of person anyone with any degree of common sense would want their daughter of any age going out with much less a minor daughter. And abusive or threatening is often in the eye of the beholder. That means just because you personally don't consider your actions abusive doesn't mean that it's so.

And you could go to jail for not obeying a restraining order. It would probably be called "contempt of court" and in some areas can garner worse fines and jail than some criminal acts.

My advice to you is clean up your act and move on. You've got a lot of growing up to do!!!!

As a parent we had to get a restraining order against a boy.

He already fathered 2 children with 2 different girls and denied responsibility.

After the incident he fathered 2 more children with underage girls.

A parent has a duty to act in the best interest of the minor.

Sounds like you don't need legal advice, but life advice. If her parents are this difficult, is she worth getting involved with? If you are both minors, odds are very slim you will end up marrying her, so why go through the aggrivation? And if it came to marriage, would you really want to be married to a woman whose parents are always trying to undermine you?

If you want to gain her parents respect (sounds like you will never gain their acceptance) then tell them you have accepted their decision and you won't pursue their daughter any longer and move on.

Because parents have the constitutional/legal right to care, custody, and control of their minor children, and because children in this country are basically CATTLE, yes, they can get a court order restraining you from coming within a reasonable distance of their child. And whether the parents want you to go to jail or not, if you violate the court order, you can -- and probably will -- go to jail for contempt of that court order becasue you are basically peeing in the judge's eye.

If the dating thing is where you are trying to get, and she is worth it, she can have the order rescinded (if it does not dissolve automatically) when she turns 18. If you are not a drug pushing, child molesting, abusive, sex crazed, creep, talk to the 'rents and try to work it out...but don't go to their house to do it because that will be violating the court order.

Good luck.

They got a restraining order. It must be legal. Perhaps you should chalk this one up as a loss and move on. Luck

Exactly how old are the both of you? Age can still be a huge factor even if youre both minors. Each state is different with their laws.

I don't care if the law says they can or can't.
If their daughter is sill living under their roof, you should respect their wishes.
