I am to qualify as a full teacher within the next 18 months.

While playing on a server my ping starts climbing to a high of 999, causing me to lagg really bad. How can I stop my ping from climbing so high? I'm on dsl, and I have rebooted my system and even unplugged my modem for five minutes but my ping continues to climb while in a game.
