Should immigrants wishing to live in Great Britain be tested on their knowledge of the Bible in order to ensure that they understand our national religion - Christianity?

Of course not. I think that many people already living in Great Britain know very little about the bible. And that bible has nothing at all to do with living in the UK, or anywhere else, for that matter. I see no need to ensure that they understand *any* religion. Perhaps it may be a good idea to test them on their knowledge of the legal system and the prevailing laws of the land in the UK.

no they shouldn't be! suppose they are atheist, how would that be fair,i am not an immigrant and if you were to question me on the bible I would fail your test.I think you are a racist for asking a question like this,I also have no discrimination for racists as I think most immigrants are racist yet this country bends over backwards to accommodate, our own children are suffering by being in schools where English isn't the first language for over 70% of the class, this country has HAD it,its bringing everyone down to low standards,im trying to get a college course but am beaten to the door by immigrants, ive changed trades three times in five years because of immigrants,im sick to death of this shite approach taken by this government in respect to its indigenous people.religion has no bearing on this,ok they pass a test, queue at luna house and get back to what they know, guaranteed you cant walk down any high street in most cities and towns in uk without hearing foreign jibber jabber from every angle.there is no solution now apart from toleration or seek a new life away from what was GREAT britain. happy xmas.edit : ref answer a few above,i would say the Beano was much more relevant!!!

The National religion for 99% of the population of Britain regardless of their ethnic origin is SHOPPING, and I doubt that most of them have ever looked at a bible. You'd better test them on the location of their nearest shopping mall

Why not? The Church of England, to be specific, is the national religion; but generic Christianity should be quite sufficient.
Hehe... that's why so many non-Anglicans left the country in the 1600s and 1700s, isn't it? They lacked freedom of worship?

Why??? Where the christians tested on paganism when they invaded Britain?

Just because the is a "christian" country doesn't mean that everyone follows that fictional book

Who said Christianity was the "national religion"?
I would say religion is a very poor basis for deciding if someone should live here. If the applicant can offer a valid contribution to society, ie is willing to work, abide by our laws and leave other people to follow their own beliefs and faith in peace, then that is all that matters.
I should add that I am an aetheist.

If being able to answer questions on the bible was a condition of remaining in the country, millions of Britons would have to leave. Also, you presume that all Britons are christians. They are clearly not.

No.

The bible and it's contents have little relevance to modern life in Britain.

You might as well test on the contents of The Sun newspaper as the biggest selling newspaper in the country so immigrants can gain an insight into British culture.
