All else being equal, Christmas is just a much bigger deal than it used to be. People "celebrate" it for almost two months of the year when it used to be a day.

How can anyone claim that American culture really celebrates Christmas as a Christian holiday?

I was visiting a family member with my dog and this family also has a dog. At the moment of my visit there was a friend of ours present at that house. This friend is a trainer.

When I go there, my dog always tries to dominate the other dog and it leads to growling and grabbing etc. They don't bite each other but It's noisy and annoying.

This trainer asked me if she could handle the situation, I said yes. She asked her husband to back away about 20 feet with the other dog. She laid my dog on the ground and held him there by the neck in a submissive position. He fought back as hard as he could, she did not hurt him but she held him till he gave out a big sigh and gave up fighting her back. Then she tells me: When your dog comes here he has to understand he's the submissive one.

What do you think of this?

I want to start professional training with my dog after the Holidays and of course she will expect me to go to her. I always wondered about how she handled the situation that day.

should that be legally acceptable, and admirable?

If one of your neighbours' children disobeyed his father, what would you say if he knowingly, gave a severe punishment to the other one?

I find it abhorrent, but I do not know about you.

Mine takes it on the first day of the week, like the Early Christians did

Acts 20:7, "Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread"

Pliny the Younger:
"..they were accustomed to meet on a fixed day before dawn and sing responsively a hymn to Christ as to a god...it was their custom to depart and to assemble again to partake of food—but ordinary and innocent food "

Justin the Martyr
"...On the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place...bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings...Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the day Jesus arose from the dead.."

Just a small greeting in a world so often filled with hatred and violence.

If you want to add your greeting please do so. Please do not use this invitation as an excuse for bigotry or negativity.

A masked man goes into a sperm bank, points a gun at the woman behind the counter, and says, "Open the safe."
She says, "This isn't a real bank, it's a sperm bank."
He says, "Open the safe or I'll shoot."
She opens the safe, and he says, "Now take one of the bottles and drink it."
After she opens the bottle and drinks it, he takes off his mask and the woman realizes the robber is her husband.
He says, "Now you see? It's not so difficult, is it?"
