Being happy is a decision you have to make everyday. You either choose to be unhappy or happy, just like any other emotion. The mind is a powerful tool. If you continue to dwell on incidents that occur in your life in unhappy state, you sill always be unhappy. But if you look at things and laugh when you can, you'll be a lot happier. No one is truely happy everyday all day long. But you can be happy for most of the day. Don't think of things you wan and be unhappy because you don't have them. Look at the things you DO you have and be happy that you have them.

I guess it's, like said above, a personal journey.
If you're really interested you can read Sophie's world (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophie's_World), I found a lot of answers there.
Personally, I think the way you view life and everything that happens is crucial: the more positive you are, the better you'll feel. If you do something wrong, don't be sad 'cause you did something wrong, see it as a chance to learn from it not to make it again. That about the things you can control, about things you cannot control... well, there's nothing you can do about them but keep your hopes up and be positive about it.

Happiness is helping people, being happy being nice to people, getting along with people, no voilence, no waar. That's all I can think of. Think of all the good times of your life to make you a happy person. If you have a really bad past. Bring your enthusiasium back up to look forward for a new day! Don't think about the bad times you have. Everyone has goood times and bad times. People can't be happy all the time. People can't be angry all the time. People can't be sad or miserable all the time. People can't be moody all the time. All of these emotions all normal human emotions.

Since when is happiness lasting? Truly, if you find happiness it is merely fleeting. People can't always be happy because it is not the natural state of things. Without negativity, there wouldn't be happiness. So you must experience the negative in order to be happy since the comparison offers the existence.

Happiness is something you create within the realms of you imagination, sunconsciously you are as happy and as loved as you allow yourself to be, the one and first person we need to seek forgiveness before we can grow is the self, at this moment in time this may not much make sense, but file it away into the recesses of your brain, and you will find how true it is....

Turn off your TV. Stay out of Southern California. Don't max out your credit cards. Do something kind for another without expecting a pay back. Happiness is an INSIDE job so don't expect another person, place, or thing to provide it for you. You must find it-or not-by your own efforts.

Hello:
Try looking into Buddhism, but suffering is caused when this world is not the way we want it...Someone gets sick...someone we like does not like us back...and so on.
Pretty much you have to be able to accept what comes and in a way not actually want anything, unless what you want always comes to pass.
Is this possible...sure inasmuch as I think that all things are possible (in theory).
I hope the helps

The old Chinese saying goes:
If you want to be happy one day, get drunk.
If you want to be happy one week, get married.
If you want to be happy all life long, grow flowers.
True happiness is state of mind. Take life as it comes (it’s only for a while), carefully plan your next step, do as you wish, never regret what you have done. Try to change what you can, done is done and can’t be changed.

I think Laura and Amid are right. That happiness is a fleeting surprise that comes from being agreeable. And that you can choose your emotional response to each new situation.
Personally, I don't do happiness: I do content. I set achievable goals.

I have been there .... I can only speak from experience... I quit looking for happiness with others and focused on me... what I like doing , what I like wearing and places I like to go with things I like to do.... before long , I found someone who shared all the same likes and dislikes... I have been married for going on five years now and couldn't be happier.... you are the most important person to yourself... there is less pressure when you focus on your happiness only !
