In China according to the Associated Press, it's not uncommon for at least 10 Chinese Miners to be killed in the mines every day! Think about that! Everyday?! So much for Occupational Safety and Health Administration in China? 6 Miners in Minnesota are dead due to flooding, the Miners in Utah are feared dead as well? My Mother's Father, my Grandfather use to be a coal miner in West Virginia.

He eventually died of lung cancer due to the silica and carbon that's contained in the coal. I remember him telling my Uncles never to work in the coal mines because it's way too dangerous and that eventually they too will develop lung cancer from constantly working the mines. I know in West Virginia, the guys that work in the mines earn way beyond minimum wage. I don't think it's a money thing with the miners as much as it is a "family" thing. My prayers go out to the families that affected by these multiple tragedies.

This year, my son will be turning 10 years old. Usually, I try and get him pretty cool stuff. Last year I got him an iPod shuffle, and he's taken really good care of it/loves is. This year, though, I've finally graduated from college and have a good paying job. What are some ideas that you have of things that I could actually get him for his birthday that would be age appropriate?

someone on my dirt / gravel road keeps spreading black oil along the length and it is SO GROSS!! it puddles up and reeks and gets all over the cars....
it seems like it would be illegal or something? people have wells around there, wouldn't it leach into the water? i'm concerned because i'm pregnant & have to drink the water, and also, when i go for walks i have asthma attacks because of the fumes on the road. not to mention--one has to dump their used motor oil in designated drop off sites, so how can pouring it all over the road be fine??

is htere anything i can do? i'm not sure who is doing it, but they did it all the way up to my driveway this time (it's the 3rd time this summer that it's been done)

for failing to pay tickets? For my UK friends, it's a device the cops put on your car tire and you can't drive it anywhere until you pay the tickets and they come and unlock it.
How much would that suck?!

Years ago I was a regular church goer, but for whatever reason I stopped going. I never stopped praying or believing, I just did it where/when I wanted. I recently went to church and although I enjoyed the service, it is just not something I feel is necessary for me at this time. I pray each and every day, I deeply believe in God and know he is a higher power than we. My question to you is do you think it matters or is it wrong for me not to attend church on a regular basis? Does not attending make my prayers any less important? I hate walking around shouldering this quilt because I do not attend church and I am tired of defending my decision to my daughter and others. Do you have any advice for me?
