I haven't used it in years, but I remember it being simple and not taking long. It couldn't have taken more than half an hour to get downtown from Candlestick. It was definitely much faster than the two times I had the misfortune of having to get out of the parking lot.

it does take a long time because so many other people are doing it as well. Expect it to be crowded, noisy, and take longer then usual.
