Tax REVENUE is up - and it's rising at over 4 times CPI. There IS a Laffer Curve and we're NOT on the right side of it. So, neither the Treasury nor the beneficiaries of any government program have suffered because of the tax rate cuts - in fact, they've gained by them. "Where'd the deficit come from?" From the spending. Yes we need to cut that, and yes I blame Bush, but it has nothing to do with the tax cuts.

So there is no reason not to make the tax cuts permanent other than sticking it to people with a high income in a given year - - SIMPLY FOR ITS OWN SAKE.

The only two reasons to do this are (1) envy, typically misplaced given the degree of mobility in the US, and (2) the notion that it's important to maintain a large 'middle class' - - - even if that means keeping households in the middle class from becoming affluent.

They're still there, they're still in the middle, but some now make 6-7X the poverty level rather than 3-4X. Why is that bad?

Hi all and thanks for your advice in advance....

I recently lost my job a couple of months ago and therefore had to claim benifits.

Due to housing benifits speed the rent was a couple of months late so i started getting phone calls everyday for about 20 minutes at a time. He tells me exactly what i should be doing i.e. go to the local M.P. write a letter to so and so and phone these people.

Also he has added interest on top of the arrers and now is saying i owe him nearly £1000.

I could understand if he phoned twice a month to ask me if i had heard anything but every day???

That can be right also he has served me with a notice to quit because of this even though i have a 2 yr old son and a heavly pregnant wife.

After every phone call both me and my wife get really stressed and argue.

The landlord never listens to what i have to say and just trys to order me to do something. Also as i met this guy at my local church i assumed he was a nice old man.......

they see that everyone is moving to alternate fuels?

They've already dropped at the pumps but I think they will drop dramatically as the "need" for oil lessens..not that there was ever an excuse WHY it had to be this high...I think it was just a cash grab because they COULD--because there was an excuse--the WAR--they must really think that people are STUPID...I'm just happy we're moving away from it and good riddance. Once we learn to harness the power of the sun, winds and water...we will be a billion times better off.

I can only imagine what the greedy will go after then to line their pockets with at OUR expense...I really believe they are profiting off of KILLING us right now...keeping us SICK and POOR, and too occupied with tearing each other down to focus our wrath onto THEM.
